The calming measures of to lower the speed limit near the residential areas were discussed

EaP regular National Working Group meeting took place, in which took part representatives of Ministry of Transport, Communication and information technology, Traffic Police and NRSC.

Three main issues were discussed:

  • establishing effective data analysis and management system to ensure usage of data analysis in the determination of policy measures,
  • introduction of traffic calming measures to lower speed below 50 km/h limit near schools, hospitals or in residential areas,
  • identification of at least top ten blackspot locations and initiation of black spot improvement programs

The WG participants highlighted the importance of establishing the new system of data collection and analysis. Taking into consideration of the experience of many European countries it is proposed to review the speed limit especially in residential areas. The road safety situation may be essentially improved in case of identification of black spots.
