Sub-regional workshop on ‘Road safety fundamentals and interventions’

Sub-regional workshop on ‘Road safety fundamentals and interventions’

On 27-29 October 2014, ‘Road safety fundamentals and interventions’ sub-regional workshop was held in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Sub-regional workshop was organized by Red Cross Society of Georgia, the Global Road Safety Partnership (GRSP) (hosted by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies) and Eastern Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Transport (EASST) within the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) Road Safety II Project funded by the European Commission.

The aim of the workshop was to address the problem of capacity for road traffic injury prevention by providing guidance to professionals working in a wide range of disciplines involved in different aspects of road safety. The workshop also aimed to reduce road crashes and trauma by building a regional and national partnership between stakeholders in the government, civil society and private sectors; as well as by strengthening capacity building through the design and implementation of pilot community-based interventions.

Among participants of the workshop were the representatives from national governments representing the Transport, Health, Emergency, Traffic Police and CSOs from Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

NRSC took an active part in the conference, presenting its projects. The video made by the NRSC on seat belts was also presented during the workshop and was highly appreciated.

In the result of the workshop, the links have been established between the Governmental and Non-governmental organizations of present countries, as well as the pilot idea was designed on improving the safety of the taxi in Armenia.

We believe that such workshops are not only to share the experience and the best practice but also to establish links and build basis for future cooperation between the countries, and once more justifying that the road safety has no boarder and no nationality.
