“Speak up to save lives” flashmob in Yerevan

“Speak up to save lives” flash mob took place in Baghramyan Avenue with participation of schoolkids of Yerevan.

The flash mob was organized by NRSC in cooperation with Yerevan Municipality and the Traffic Police in frames of UN Global Road Safety Week. The purpose of the flash mob was to speak up through the mouth of schoolkids about road safety issues and demand from the road users to follow traffic rules and the Government to make comprehensive actions.

Firstly there was a discussion with schoolkids in the Lovers’ park about the road safety issues, the urgency of following the traffic rules, this year’s UN messages and the importance of spreading the latter. After that schoolkids moved to Baghramyan avenue by holding posters with such demands as: “I demand a safer journey”, “I demand to wear a seat-belt”, “I demand political will”, “I demand to slow down” and others to show their call to all road users. Besides, the schoolkids distributed flyers to the passers-by about basic road traffic rules.

“With this activity with schoolkids we speak up and call for action to the Government and the public at large. We must be persistent and everyone of us should work hard to decrease the number of road traffic crashes, fatalities and injuries. The primary step, for sure, is to update the Road Safety Strategy, which is outdated since 2013 and the Action Plan, as whatever is being done now by the Government does not take a systematic character. If we work with combined efforts in a systematic way, we will succeed”, — said NRSC Program Manager Tatevik Hovhannisyan.
